- cardboard squares
- black pipe cleaners
- black marker
- pony beads
- craft googley eyes
- tape
- awl (or something to punch holes in cardboard)
Directions
Draw a circle on the cardboard square, and color it in with black marker
Punch 9 holes along the perimeter of the circle with an awl- 4 on each side of the circle
Insert a small piece of pipe cleaner into each hole- bend each end into an L shape to keep it from coming out of the cardboard and then use tape (masking or packaging) to secure them all to the back of the cardboard.
String pony beads onto each pipe cleaner leg- I usually tell the kids a specific number for each leg, that way you can sneak a little 1:1 correspondence with counting into the activity as well.
Fold the end of each pipe cleaner over and twist to keep the beads on the legs
Glue craft eyes onto the black circle (can also do this after coloring in the circle if you'd rather)
